I've never worked in an ad agency but I would have thought that the truth is exactly the other way around. That a few stars take the lion's share of the money? In that many tallented people are never let into the business. Take Die Antwoord South Africa's latest creative phenomena for example. They would never have had a look in.

You are right though that Hollywood, Radio, Music industry manufactured stars and it supported their business model. This model is not incidentally attached to broadcasting technology.

Now social media is acting like a talent search mechanism. The questions is does the new stars still need Hollywood? My guess is that the new stars will exist outside of agency land altogether.
